338554 2005-04-02 23:20:00 Hi Scilla. The original poster here got the bullet for posting self advertising material. If you want reasonable responses, I suggest you start a new thread with your question - adding more details of your system, what programmes you use, etc. Be nice to know exactly what stage you were at when the evnt occurred, etc. And welcome. Scouse (83)
338555 2005-04-03 06:06:00 Hi Scilla. The original poster here got the bullet for posting self advertising material.Actually this poster did not get any "bullet". He just made a random post and then vanished without letting us onto his secret. It might just have to remain one of those mysteries  Jen (38)
338556 2005-04-03 06:53:00 Oooops! Sorry Jen. I read too much in to his brief appearance with what I thought was probably going to be spam. Thought you may have shot him down when he never fronted again. Scouse (83)
338557 2005-04-03 06:57:00 By the way Jen. I like your apt-get moo (www.themuy.com) Scouse (83)

Hi,

Well I was really brassed of with my surf experiance because for no apparent reason my browser just stopped . I would be happily clicking away on links to here there everywhear and suddenly my browser Firefox, Netscape and I . e would just sit there for ages doing nothing . I could click on a link as much as I liked and yet nothing . Then all of a sudden off it went and everything was fine for a while then the same thing again .

I checked the net for answers and lo an behold loads of people were reporting this strange ocurance .

Finally I found the answer on a site the name of which I can not remember .

It suggested that I dissable my lan connection . I did that and WALA everything is going 100 miles an hour and I have not had a problem since .

GOTO device manager disable lan conector, restart computer and all done .

I am well happy now .

royston .

Hmm . Sounds like rubbish . Or are you using a dial-up connection?
If I disabled LAN my internet would come to a grinding halt . I have jetstream using ethernet .

338560 2005-04-04 00:25:00 just as a point of interest what forum did you find this on, as it sounds to be more of a prank than a tip Morgenmuffel (187)
338561 2005-04-04 00:27:00 kinda makes sence .

with win9x/me windows can have a bit of a glitch when you have a network present . the mtu value is set to auto (it will change from 576 to 1500, dailup to lan) . however it sometimes in error will change from from 576 to 1500 when you are useing dailup and cause the pauseing .

this can be even worse if the browser is doing a lookup over lan (which is caused by slow DNS servers) . eg the dns server is slow to respond so the browser looks for a dns server over the lan connection .

Hardly the same as disabling LAN completely though!

338563 2005-04-04 00:45:00 its fairly rare. tho easly fixable by changeing the mtu setting. however it also slows the lan down to dailup speed. however there is a way around that to. local DNS cacheing also heaps.
but the biggest problem to browser pauseing is often phone lines, poor seetings or incorrect modem drivers.
disabling lan is not a gauranteed fix. it might help, it might not.
