Download Everest from here (www.lavalys.com). It will give you all the details of your system.

339726 2005-03-30 20:58:00 Apparently this error commonly arises with older BIOS's after installing Windows XP. So if that is your situation the easy way out would be to 'downgrade' to Win 98SE.

If you do find a BIOS upgrade that is specifically for running XP, then do take care to read the instal details very carefully, and to make doubly sure you do have the right binary file for your motherboard.

Google gives lots of hits typing in your basic error message, this is what MS say:
(which is not all that helpful:) )
support.microsoft.com

Edit: You really need a dos util to find your motherboard details since you may not be able to install and run a windows one with that error message problem.
You could try Aida16 which runs from a boot disk, downloadable from here:

339727 2005-03-30 22:28:00 You can find out your BIOS ID string during bootup. As soon as POST has finished, normally down the bottom left of the screen will briefly display a string of characters normally starting with a date following by groups of alpha/numeric characters separate by hyphens. When you see this string display, hit the Pause/Break key on the keyboard to halt the display. Then copy down the complete string. This key should be able to identify the manufacturer of your motherboard and the BIOS version. Jen (38)
