338991 2005-03-29 03:23:00 I need to find a portable recorder capable of recording live music as MP3 or (preferably) high quality WAV files, and playing this back - for a rehearsing musician. Files need to be able to be uploaded via USB port to a computer running Windows. I believe the iRiver H120 fitted the bill nicely, but it has been superceded by the 320, which is more expensive and more geared to multimedia than just music. Any home musicians out there who have good advice on what to consider? Thanks annie (6010)

338993 2005-03-29 04:33:00 Do you need to record in stereo or will mono do ? If its mono any of the thousands of clone mp3 player voice recorders will do the job. the highlander (245)
338994 2005-03-29 04:39:00 Hi, thanks for the reply. Mono is fine - it's for a training singer - needs to be able to get good quality recording so she can modify her technique (hopefully to improve..) So any old MP3 player will record well enuf for this? annie (6010)
338995 2005-03-29 06:40:00 High quality sound recordings are in the ear of the beholder. I use a mp3 player to record many things such as interviews and lectures and while the sound is perfectly acceptable to me in that speech is clear and well defined with no distortion it might not be for musical playback for assessing performance.
The only way to prove it is to try. Does anyone you know have one ?
I suggest these because they are bucket loads cheaper than the alternative you suggested. If anyone has a laptop you could borrow, a stereo mike could also be used to record directly to it to do on the spot assessment of technique using freeware programs available on the net.

338997 2005-03-29 21:04:00 I'm pretty sure you'll need something that at least can accept a reasonable microphone. Try one of the better audio stores, like Eastern HiFi. Greg (193)
338998 2005-03-30 21:14:00 Thanks Greg, I will do that annie (6010)
