| 338970 | 2005-03-29 07:14:00 | OK TideMan, having downloaded SimpyMEPIS-3 . 3 and fired it up I have to confess it is a pretty smart looking distro . I'm running it on a P3 933Mhz with 512 MB RAM from the live-CD and it is pretty snappy . Even comes with Firefox as the default browser  Might have to agree with Murray on this one, as a live-CD it is worth trying (or even installing) I'm actually posting this now from Mepis, and have taken a couple of screenshots: Default desktop ( . neoburn . net/imagef1/files/mepis_desktop . jpg" target="_blank">sal . neoburn . net) KDE Menu items ( . neoburn . net/imagef1/files/mepis_kde . jpg" target="_blank">sal . neoburn . net) |

Your next post has me popping into the line of fire again though . Must admit, I haven't upgraded mine, will have to crank it up . It's just one CD now, my bad in my earlier post . Have fun Jen . |

| 338972 | 2005-03-29 12:58:00 | That actually looks really really nice! Im keen to give it a whirl. Any chance I could bring a few blank CD-R's and swap you Jen at the next LUG? Im also keen to see the new Xandros Xandros Surfside (home.xandros.com) |

| 338975 | 2005-03-30 05:36:00 | OK OK OK Murray, I'm going to have to download this "better than sliced bread" distro then and have a look for myself . :p Mepis is the only distro to successfully use my winmodem in my IBM laptop, SUSE 9 . 1 reckoned it did, but it didn't quite work . Also works well on a friends laptop which has a Transmeta cpu (can't remember the name of the laptop but its ex DSE) . :nerd:  |

Wrong! *cough* Just don't look Chill and it won't hurt you. Mepis isn't as proprietary as Xandros, not sure of the latest ver' though, will know once I snag the rest of it tonight. |
