Ooops, have I gone too far Jen

338970 2005-03-29 07:14:00 OK TideMan, having downloaded SimpyMEPIS-3 . 3 and fired it up I have to confess it is a pretty smart looking distro . I'm running it on a P3 933Mhz with 512 MB RAM from the live-CD and it is pretty snappy . Even comes with Firefox as the default browser

Might have to agree with Murray on this one, as a live-CD it is worth trying (or even installing)

I'm actually posting this now from Mepis, and have taken a couple of screenshots:

In a nutshell, yes . Your next post has me popping into the line of fire again though .

Must admit, I haven't upgraded mine, will have to crank it up . It's just one CD now, my bad in my earlier post .

Have fun Jen .

338972 2005-03-29 12:58:00 That actually looks really really nice!

Im keen to give it a whirl. Any chance I could bring a few blank CD-R's and swap you Jen at the next LUG?

Im also keen to see the new Xandros

Xandros Surfside (home.xandros.com)Sure, not a problem. :)

Xandro Surfside has an interesting angle going ... looks like they are targetting it for Skype users and the boxed version comes with a headphone set!

338974 2005-03-30 02:22:00 Yeah, and Firefox as Default is a real winner too! Chilling_Silence (9)

Mepis is the only distro to successfully use my winmodem in my IBM laptop, SUSE 9 . 1 reckoned it did, but it didn't quite work .

Also works well on a friends laptop which has a Transmeta cpu (can't remember the name of the laptop but its ex DSE) .

:nerd:

338976 2005-03-30 07:25:00 Im keen to give it a whirl on my Familys PC to replace their current *ugly looking* Xandros installation which Ive never been overly fond of.

...But Mepis is Debian-based also right?

Wrong! *cough* Just don't look Chill and it won't hurt you. Mepis isn't as proprietary as Xandros, not sure of the latest ver' though, will know once I snag the rest of it tonight.
