| 339692 | 2005-03-30 18:15:00 | I have downloaded the free version of Ad-Aware SE in place of my old Ad-Aware 6.0. Now IE will start but I can't get any internet pages to open. If I go back to an earlier Windows restore point, everything works but Ad-Aware SE isn't installed. Would appreciate help and comments. Thanks Baz |

| 339696 | 2005-03-30 20:44:00 | What version of IE are you using? Have you try using other Internet Browser besides IE like Firefox or Netscape? Why send somebody off to download a browser on a machine that cannot open web pages? :illogical I know some people prefer alternatives to IE, but why on earth are these trotted out as cure-alls for issues that are in all probability nothing to do with the browser? Would it not be better to offer assistance in checking the basics to find out why pages can't be opened? When I started my main computer this morning it only had limited net access. A quick check found that my DNS settings had disappeared and re-entering brought everything back to normal. Yes, I use IE, but if I had blamed the browser and tried to fix the problem by installing an alternative I'd still be looking for the answers. IMHO it is better to answer the poster's question before preaching the gospel of the 10% or less. Cheers Billy 8-{) |

| 339698 | 2005-03-30 21:24:00 | Also check and see if adwatch is blocking access. Click "AdWatch". 2. Click "Tools and Preferences". (Look at the bottom of the window you will see two options...) 3. Uncheck these options: Active: This will turn Ad-Watch On\Off without closing it Automatic: Suspicious activity will be blocked automatically Then see if you can connect. hth |

| 339701 | 2005-03-30 22:17:00 | The problem is more likely to be due to a winsock or firewall problem and the fact that it happened after downloading Ad- Aware is probably a coincidence. It is working now after a system restore so would suggest installing Ad- Aware again See this thread for some other suggestions. pressf1.pcworld.co.nz |
