339623 2005-03-30 08:04:00 HI,
I have a network of 2 computers through a Hub, and since yesterday everything was working perfectly (all folders of both pcs were accessable from one another).
Then I ran the Network Wizard and afterwards from computer A (in the workgroup folder) computer B is not seen, and vice versa!
Then I disabled the firewall because the network wizard enabled it, and the following happened;
from computer A i can access computer B, but from computer B I could see computer A.
Please note that the workgroups names are the same on both PCs and the Pcs names are uniuqe.

Can someone please help me!!

339624 2005-03-30 08:08:00 DON'T use the network wizard. Type the ip addresses in manually under the LAN Icon / properties / TCP/IP on each PC.

The network wizard, screws a network up

339625 2005-03-30 08:25:00 thanks mate,
I learned that the network wizard is bull**** yesterday.
but i have the ip address set to "obtain automatically"

339626 2005-03-30 08:29:00 No. Dont put them on obtain an ip address automatically.

Change both to use the following ip address option. And type the ip addresses in manually.

339627 2005-03-30 08:47:00 I empathise with you. Network problems can be a *****.
You end up going round and round in circles, then suddenly everything works for no apparent reason.
I find the following checklist helpful:
www.practicallynetworked.com
It recommends using ping to try various things out until you isolate the problem.
I agree with the other poster who said the Network Wizard is a major culprit. Everytime you run it, it reconnects the XP Firewall that simply is incompatible with a network, in my experience anyway.

Err no . . . The prob with using the wizard, is it gives u totally different ip addresses on whatever PC's and does nothing whatsoever, in helping someone to set a network up properly .

It has nothing to do with XP's firewall, if the firewall is/was off, it stays off .

And I doubt if XP's firewall was on, it would conflict with a home network .

Otherwise, there would be no point in having XP's firewall in the 1st place .

Or even MS giving XP a firewall at all .

It's only if u have a firewall like ZA, or Nortons, or other, that you may have probs with setting up a network, if u dont configure whatever firewall properly first .

And if u put the ip address under the LAN properties on obtain an ip address automatically, they may change (the ip addresses) everytime u reboot (if u reboot or turn the PC's off) .

And then you're back to square 1! Thats why its better to put an ethernet network on use the following ip address . Coz, once u type the ip addresses in . They stay put, and wont change, everytime u reboot the system/s .

339629 2005-03-30 08:59:00 is it possible that one of the computers has a particular setting about sharing?? (i am refering to the whole pc not to a particular folder) mouthpiec (7747)
339630 2005-03-30 09:05:00 Well, HOPEFULLY you're not going to share the whole hard drive (you maybe sorry) if u do. If u get hacked, byebye system.

Just create a folder and share it...And enable file/printer sharing. On both.

I take it XP is on both PC's mouthpiec?
