340386	2005-04-01 13:30:00	I have so many questions today My external usb hard drive just died.I think i dropped it.It spins but it makes a crink sound. The led light comes on but windows cannot read the hard drive anymore I have movies saved into the hard drive.Some assignments and about 100 mp3s save. Are there anyway I can extract the data and put it on a cdr? What should I Do?	Ninjabear (2948)
340387	2005-04-01 18:13:00	Dropping the HDD might damage the head of the HDD, which results in HDD reading failure. Have you try accessing your external HDD using different USB port other than the regular one that you use? What messages that you might encounter when Windows try to access it? Does your external HDD have a firewire port? Try accessing it through IEEE 1394 if you have one. Cheers and good luck :)	Renmoo (66)

340390	2005-04-01 19:03:00	This sometimes works - put the HDD in the freezer for a hour, then try to boot it. If successful, Ghost or copy all data you need and then discard the HDD. As I said....sometimes works.	thepom (7654)

340394	2005-10-14 06:45:00	Hello, I'm having similar problem with Ninjabear . I think my external HDD died but deep down I don't believe it (I don't want to) . I can't recall if someone or me dropped it recently but it has dropped 4 times accidentally in the past . So when I plug in the usb cable to my pc (no firewire) the windows kinda detcting that there's a usb mass storage device plugged in from the icon on the taskbar . However, when I go in to My Computer, the HDD doesn't show up . It usually appears on G: or H: . I notice that usually when it's just been plugged in, the icon on the task bar says something like usb something2 detected and then it shows the kind of HDD (which is Fujitsu something) but this time, it only shows the first message . The HDD led would usually blink but it's not anymore . Have read several options to check the HDD by going to BIOS or IDE option . I'm noob at this, would someone kindly guide me through any of possible option to check my HDD . I'd really appreciate it coz I care much bout the stuff I have in the HDD which is a whole load of my uni works for the past 2 years . I'd burn all those to DVD right away if I can access it . I am also wondering how much would it cost for me to bring it to a shop to repair(checking the HDD or recovering the files) . Thank you :)	bAbOoN (7764)
