340849 2005-04-02 19:42:00 Hello I've been having some serious computer problems as of yesterday and I cant seem to fix them. Okay so every time I click on a program from my desktop it says This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Crates an associated in the folder options panel I cant even run cmd, misconfig, or even reinstall program from cd. I tried to reinstall the windows xp cd but that doesn't even work. The only way I can get online is by going to control panel and clicking windows update from there. Other than that I cant get online. All my startup programs are also gone. My anti virus will run but only when I right click the folder or drive and scan it that way. I have no idea what to do and everyone else I've talked to doesn't seem to know either. rick (7781)

Have you tried System Restore?

And what clues, eg have you messed around with any hardware recently or installed/uninstalled any software just before this happened? 		Greg (193)
340851 2005-04-02 21:23:00 on the assumption that you are running xp which you havent told us ........anyway.......copy and paste the stuff below the stars here into a notepad file and save as 'fileassociation.bat'......then double clik it to run.......

340853 2005-04-03 17:47:00 Thx for your help and i have fixed the problem. I was finally able to use my reinstall cd for windows xp to fix my computer. I'm still not sure what was wrong but at least it works again rick (7781)
