DOH!!
I would have thought "communication" was the big clue.

340622 2005-04-02 10:51:00 Having replaced my partners harddrive, and installing Windows 98 first edition (at her request) I keep getting a 'PCI communications device found' notice on startup.
Now I know this is a new device being picked up, and I know its looking for a driver, but I don't know where to find the driver for it, or what a PCI communications device is (I am assuming it is the integrated sound card).
The computer is an Acer desktop with Acer mobo, P3 Celeron, the only PCI devices are a LAN card and the modem (which was another story in itself, but all sweet now).

I have to tell you that a PCI Com device is in my view a Modem.

OK. Problem solved.

340623 2005-04-02 11:17:00 I've never really thought of a modem as a communication device, but thinking about it now, yeah.
The PCI should have my biggest clue

340624 2005-04-02 13:20:00 Win98SE is a good OS, Win2KPro is better still. I have and use them both. Dual boot, and always a buzz to go back and use the 98SE OS for old times sake. I always keep AVG, SpyBot and Ad-Aware up to date on the 98SE partition plus latest Zone Alarm and a few other programs in case of a bad infestation on the 2K OS. I have a lot of fun playing around on my computer and trying to remember where I have stored older files and also what programs are running on what OS. I have my text programs on 98SE OS (MS XP small Office) and graphics on 2K (Photoshop, FreeHand and many more). I have 6 partitions and one extra hard drive for fast temp internet files and emergency backup. Quite difficult to remember where it all is. zqwerty (97)
