341054 2005-04-03 04:24:00 i was bored and so went to dse site for no reason
and noticed there's a few firmware avaliable for my router XH1169.

after reading the readme i was pretty amazed at the steps and the things needed to be done to update it...so much for the upgrade firmware from web browser..but it seems like a big update after all

has anyone tried the new firmware?
the SPI firewall interests me a little
althought i dunno wat it actually does...

if anyone got this router and updated successfully..can u comment on the SPI firewall..and the new interface??..is the update really neccessary??

341055 2005-04-03 04:41:00 DON'T, if it ain't broke don't try and fix it. Flashing these routers under XP is near impossible, it can be done but is very difficult, you really need to do it on a DOS box. You won't notice any real differences with the new firmware. Dak (6610)
341056 2005-04-03 09:05:00 um..yes i know that.. i don't mind dos though..
jz not sure if updating was worth all the trouble

i've read from some sites saying SPI's effectiveness depends on specific piece of hardware and the people who made it or something..how not every SPI is the same or has the same effectiveness..

um..for those who got the same router..did dse do a good job??

Yep agreed. Downloaded the update drivers and when i saw that they had to be upgraded only via USB I deleted them..

341058 2005-04-03 22:44:00 I managed to upgrade to the latest firmware(10.1) usb cable successfully. the main changes in it are firewall(which includes access control list), and web management interface and something else.

I recommend you only do it if you have experience with it. Other wise take it to them, they will charge around $45 to do it.
