341242 2005-04-03 21:22:00 Greetings:

There are several reasons why I am using :yuck: Windows
1 . Games like Diablo II and Starcraft
2 . The Rosetta Stone <---- The biggest reason for not wanting duel boot I like using it when I am on the net Downloading files on P2P programs
3 . Cool speech (a text to audio program)
4 . Sofsource (a math teaching program)

These are the main (and only reason that I have :yuck: Windows Installed .

Now I know that I can have duel boot or even use VMware or something like it but I like Debian and I have not been able to get it to work with it . Any way I would prefer not to have to have windows on it at all (maybe for my mother when she visits I would have IE :yuck: and also some other window apps . For here however I want to be able to use all of the programs/games on the net .

I know I can install D II and SC in Linux using wine but I don't Think I can play on the net which is the only reason I like the games so much .

Oh there is another program that I need and it is for my business . it is a
Chat client program .
there is not the option of getting a different one because this is a community presentation room where I bring my prospects into it . Then the presenter (which can be any one that is a Senior Director or above will present the company and what we offer . This is why I can not just go get something else .

(I can't find the name of it I have looked all around for the name of the program but can't find it (I also believe that it is made for my business not something they rent) I know that this is not much but the only way for me to give the name would be to give you the web-address for you to check it out on Linux .

So because the program is in a website that talks about my business I can only give you the web-address if you whisper me for it (note you will have to download it) and if I were post the web address here I may get :rolleyes:railed for spamming and then I could lose my acc . here and even lose my job there for doing somthing that my seem like spamming .

I have 2 Hard drives
The primary is 40Gb . And the secondary is 80GB
I have backup files on the 80GB and I could duel boot with windows on 1 and Linux on the other but I need to much space for the files such as videos and music that I put into my PC . Copying them would take to many CDs and at the time I cant afford a DVD burner .

Also I would like to never look back to windows again if I could have these programs and some more games which I will be installing in a few days like spellforce and few others like it .

As far as programs go the ones that I need are mostly available in Linux or there equivalents .

Any suggestions?

341243 2005-04-03 21:44:00 See: http://www.transgaming.com for Cedega, the WineX successor

If you can provide more information (like a web URL of the homepage for the software) somebody may be able to help you more with the rest of them.

What sorta chat program is it? Proprietry?

341244 2005-04-03 22:00:00 BTW - You can leave the files etc on your windows FAT32 partition.

Give Ark Linux a shot, its now in final release, 2005.0.
IIRC its kind enough to put a link on your desktop to your Doze partition :)

You could also try CrossOver Office. Although it has a list of Windows programs that it will run, your Windows program may well run under it (there is a demo so you could try it)

341247 2005-04-04 13:28:00 CrossOver Office I could not remember the name but yes I used it however the programs I use can run in CrossOver Office The only problem is I cant seem to run the CD's for them (the CD setup is different on Linux then windows) this is why.

I also like using Virtual drive so I do not have to change my CD's. This if I could get it working in CrossOver Office then it might work.

341248 2005-04-04 20:01:00 mkdir ~/cdimages
dd if=/dev/cdrom of=/home/username/cdimages/diablo2.iso
su -
[enter root pw]
mkdir /mnt/image1
mount -t iso9660 -o loop /home/username/cdimages/diablo2.iso /mnt/image1
exit
cedega /mnt/image1/setup.exe

There you go.. no additional software installation required :)

341249 2005-04-04 22:01:00 thank you for that info I be installing linux asap this will probly help even with the other programs that I have been wanting to run.

One question tho is that a .txt file of some kind or is it what I enter into the console? It looks like I do that from console but I want to be sure.

Also I like the idea and feal of Debain but for using (that is if I do) VMware do I need something like red-hat or Mandrake?

VMware should be fine with Debian.

341251 2005-04-05 00:56:00 Try qEmu, works better than VMWare performance-wise

That's what you put into a bash prompt :)

Chill.
