| 341239 | 2005-04-03 19:10:00 | I have had about ten computers in the pst 11 years. I have had NO training. All I know is what I have picked up by doing, by reading mags, and through this forum. I have noticed that over the past few years a new computer has come with a motherboard disk. I'm sure the early ones did not.As I understand it this disk contains the drivers for the m/b. What I want to know is where the info/drivers on this disk are stored. If I do a re-format and re-installation of my OS. Do I have to re-intall from this disk as well? I am sure that I have re-installed my OS in the past but not the m/b drivers. Also I notice on the ASUS site they have m/b drivers for download. They have win xp drivers and also drivers for xp 64. Are the 64 drivers for a 64 bit cpu or for the non-existant windows 64 XP. I have an Athlon 64 3200+ and am running Win xp home. |

If you pop the CD in, you should be given a menu where you pick the drivers required. Seeing as this is a planned reinstall, then download the latest drivers for all your devices eg motherboard, video, printers etc and save them to CD. That way you don't have to use the older drivers supplied with your machine. I haven't looked at the ASUS driver section, but a 64bit XP driver would be for the 64bit Windows OS and not for the CPU type. |
