I feel fairly secure behind my NAT router but my third-party firewall has at least twice detected funny business going on that turned out to be trojans which had somehow got onto my system behind my back. Relying on just the Windows firewall feels like being in a car without a seat belt on... insecure. |

| 341453 | 2005-04-05 12:02:00 | If you rely on XP's firewall you are asking for trouble IMO . ZA is ok and works for many people but, as mentioned application control needs some user input regards rules, many people seem not to use them in ZA, instead preferring to use the defaults . I don't believe ZA's (free) problems are all simply because a lot of people use it (a lot of people use it because it is freely bundled with other app's, ie good marketing), shouldn't the most popular programmes be the ones with the least problems, excluding user interaction of course, although if it was that good it should have largely overcome that as well . In some respects having a deficient security application is worse than non at all . It give users a false sense of security which can lead to bigger problems than if they acted more cautiously by applying basic security tenants . Why would you not acquire the best you can afford and learn to use it effectively? |
