341455 2005-04-04 08:09:00 I am trying to get my old Windows 98 machine running again. During boot up, it completes the mem test, finds the HDD, and CDROM and then hangs up. There is no "A" prompt so I cant boot from a floppy. Any suggestion?
Thanks

go into the BIOS (press DEL or what ever it says on the screen) and disable the floppy

341457 2005-04-04 08:16:00 If 98 is on the hard drive, go into the BIOS and change the bootdisk to the hard drive. And take the floppy out of the disk drive, if there's one in the disk drive. And take the cd out if theres a cd in the cd rom.

You shouldnt have to boot from floppy, if 98 is already on the hdd.

And u shouldnt have to disable the floppy in the BIOS.

341458 2005-04-04 11:36:00 Thanks for the replies. It hangs up after detecting the HDD and CDrom, where as it should continue to the C drive, or if a floppy is in the drive boot from that. There is no operating system on the HDD, thats is why I am trying to boot from a windows 98 MS dos Boot disc so that I can format the HDD.
I have tried disabling the floppy, but it always stops at the same point. I have tried booting from a CD (windows instalation disc) as well.

341461 2005-04-22 00:55:00 I removed all the other cards, LAN, modem, SCSI etc and left only the video card in and then it booted up ok. After installing windows I replaced one card (& its drivers) at a time and all is ok now.
good luck
