341319 2005-04-04 00:51:00 I'm having a problem i'm hoping someone can help me out with .

I've just built a new pc, and i'm quite disappointed with the results i'm getting from it . Let me list my pc, and my problem . . .

ASUS A8N DELUX, nforce4 SLI mobo
AMD 64, fx-55 @ 2 . 6 GHZ
1 GB Giel Ultra Ram, pc3200 Dual channel
TWO Nvidia 6800 Ultra's in SLI mode
one Raptor 10,000 74GB HDD
Latest drivers/forceware from nvidia
---

The problem:
Low Frames per second
Low Benchmarks from 3dmark05

I know the pc is running in sli, and i've even turned on the load balance screen while in games to check it out . The problem is:

Running DOOM 3
Ultra (OR) High Quality mode
16X or no Antial
ALL options turned to high

i pull in a small 40-50 FPS

Also, in benchmarks i'm getting 9,545

I did some reading, and i've found that i should be getting way over 60 fps easily in doom 3, and i should be getting 10,000 or more in 3dmark05, but i'm not .

is there something i'm missing? i hope someone can help me out!

Thanks!

341320 2005-04-04 01:02:00 what OS?

what software have you got running in the back ground?

can you do benchmarks on the memory, hardrive etc.

341321 2005-04-04 01:28:00 I'm running win xp service pack 2 - its a fresh install (just put the pc together lastnight)

Nothing is running in the background.

i haven't done benchmarks on the ram or harddrive

341322 2005-04-04 01:55:00 you could try the looking atblackviper (www.blackviper.com)
he shows you how to turn off all the background crap
I would be interested if anybody has done any of his recomendations??

Myself and a number of people here follow Black Viper's recommendations, though to varying degrees of religiousness. I turn off all of the "safe" items plus a few of the "power user" items.

341324 2005-04-04 03:36:00 These services take up so little resouces you would be hard presed to notice any difference.

I would be interested in seeing a before and after benchmark, My money would be that there would be no difference.

341325 2005-04-04 03:39:00 I always turn off unnecessary services .

e . g . server - service, who needs to access my PC . Remote registry etc . etc .

341326 2005-04-04 03:40:00 Have you installed the latest Nforce chipset drivers?

You can find them here (www.nvidia.com)

Also note that most games are not yet optimised to take advantage of SLI technology

341327 2005-04-04 03:56:00 . . .

So heres mine .
A8N Deluxe
3500+ 64
1Gb Legend DDR400 - not dual
80GB IDE Seagate
1 ASUS 6600 (no SLI, no GT, etc - the vanilla one)
Beta Nvidia driver . (which did help a bit)

3D Mark 05= 2189
Now I didn't overclock either the CPU or card .
The score with the latest (not beta) card driver was 2023 .

Don't believe everything you're told about scores unless its provable . Yours is fine .
And even if someone did get a bit more than you, so what - what games are you having trouble running? None, I bet . Your system is seriously cool .

Theres various factors that can affect it slightly - like note the difference when I chnaged drivers . Plus these benchmarkers are often tweaked to skew results - ATI vs Nvidia competition . . .

What I noted on the actual 3D mark score website (on the "true" ones - my CPU or CPU/board combo, whatever - beat a lot of other systems, who got an overall higher score . The card lets mine down .
But for now its ok, its not like I can't play HalfLife 2 full everything . . .
I'll chnage it sometime but haven't made up my mind whther to do the SLI thing like yours or just to get an X850XT .
Never had an ATI yet, so I'm edging towards it . . .
Go look at Toms Hardware - the PCI-E 3dMark 05 scores there, certainly nothing wrong with yours at all .

341328 2005-04-04 05:51:00 You're not running dual monitors by any chance? If you are, turn it off and try benchmarking again.

Lo.
