| 342091 | 2005-04-06 07:12:00 | Hello I am trying to make a newtork connection between my desktop and my laptop computer so I can copy files from one computer to the other. Is someone able to give me step by step instructions on how to do this as I have not been able to make it work. Both computers use Windows XP. Thanks... Shomenno |

| 342092 | 2005-04-06 07:29:00 | I take it u have a crossover cable?? Just enable file/printer sharing on both . And under each LAN icon/properties/ TCP/IP select use the following ip address . On the first PC, put 192 . 168 . 0 . 1 subnet 255 . 255 . 255 . 0 (If u want the networked PC to get on the net, click on the dialup icon for the main PC / properties/advanced tick the option under internet connection sharing) . On the other PC put 192 . 168 . 0 . 2 subnet 255 . 255 . 255 . 0 default gateway 192 . 168 . 0 . 1 preferred DNS server 192 . 168 . 0 . 1 Thats it . And make a folder on each and right mouse/share . . . . |

And both NICs have the drivers loaded Is the cable new or old? (i.e. worn) Are you sure its a crossover cable, and not an ordinary network cable? Is the cable connected to both computers in the correct port? When you go to Network Connections (in control panel) is there a Local Area Connection icon there? Is this connection enabled? If not double click on it When you go to properties on this icon, do you have the following... Client for Windows TCP/IP File and printer sharing If one of these is missing, click on install and find the service you are missing (it will be in one of the following tabs) Let me know what you answer to these, and then we will see where to go after that :) |
