341842 2005-04-05 06:52:00 Writing to CD-RW disks on my laptop is a breeze. (WinXP). I can use any program and the computer treats the CD just like a floppy.
But on my desktop running WinXP Prof it is a nightmare. I can only use MY
COMPUTER and when its done all files are read only.
I cannot change them, neither can I use Total Commander to write files (like I can on my laptop).
How do I change it so that my desktop behaves like my laptop?

341843 2005-04-05 07:18:00 Get Nero instead and disable XP's cd burning.

Or get this http://www.cdburnerxp.se/ its free.

341844 2005-04-05 10:28:00 The feature that allows CDRWs to behave like floppys is called Mount Rainer, and obviously your laptop's drive supports this. It could be that your desktops CDRW drive doesn't, so the only way to get it to write mount rainer disks would be to get a new CDRW drive.

To find out for certain whether your desktop's drive supports Mount Rainer, download DVDinfo from www.dvdinfopro.com The free version contains embedded banner ads, but no spyware.

341845 2005-04-05 11:48:00 Or you could use something like InCD for packet writing, which is what a CD acting like a floppy needs to do, to do it. It's not the most reliable way to write and store data though. Murray P (44)
