2005-04-05 05:54:00 | Motherboard / RAM compatability ! Can anyone tell me whether I can use 512mb PC2700 DDR 333MHz RAM Modules in a motherboard which now has 256mb PC2100 DDR 266MHz RAM ? System has 2.4GHz CPU but I can't figure out how, or where, to find out whether the motherboard will accept the faster RAM ... both are 2.5v 184pin Any help would be appreciated !

2005-04-05 06:08:00 | That's what I don't know ... and don't know where to find out. There doesn't seem to be any name on the board itself, unless it's on the bottom side which I can't see. Someone has suggested that the faster RAm will "clock-back" to what the motherboard can handle .. I don't know whether that's correct or not. Is there anything in sytem files that wil tell me what motherboard i've got, or what speed it capable of ... ? I'm really new at this ... so don't embarrass me any more than I already am !! :help:

2005-04-05 06:54:00 | Find the entry for the motherboard. That should give u the details and maybe the name/brand of it. | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2005-04-05 06:56:00 | OK, after you open it, you will see an icon with motherboard written under it. Click on that and it will give you the motherboard name. Post that here for us please | Myth (110) | |
2005-04-05 06:58:00 | Motherboard : Gigabyte GA-8SIML Bus Type : Intel NetBurst Width - 64 bit Real Clock : 100MHz Effective Clock : 400MHz Bandwidth : 3200 MB/s Does this mean the 333Mhz PC2700 is OK but that the "optimum" would be PC3200 DDR400 RAM modules ?
