341869 2005-04-05 10:12:00 Read this orcon forum thread (forums.orcon.net.nz).

For a bit of a laugh read the other threads on the Orcon Forum about Orcon UBS :groan:

341870 2005-04-05 12:21:00 I've just noticed that Ihug no longer offer the Bliink 256k Unlimited Plan. I'm guessing that if I "upgrade" to the "new" 20gb capped plan, these latency issues will go away...

Anyone care to bet? :)

341871 2005-04-05 12:41:00 All the "unlimited" plans have just got hammered witht he big downloaders.
There were/are probably some moving from Orcon to Ihug.

Alas, "all you can eat" has always resulted in problems. ISPs just need to have sensible caps (10 GB is not enough, 30 GB should do it). No ISP wants the heavy downloaders, they will only ever lose money with them.

The theory is that as the lighter users come on board then things will get better. However, the problem is that they'll just use the 1 GB plans. :2cents:

341872 2005-04-05 20:44:00 I did about 38 gigs last month.... sat seeding torrents for a few days (Can you say Gentoo 2005.0!?).

I sometimes have issues with google.co.nz, or google.com.au - depends :-/

341873 2005-04-06 10:08:00 I have been with IHUG for 2 months and have had no problems.Opened up the ebay link ok.My speed has been good, downloading a.iso just now and hitting 34 KB/s regularly. Lachlan (4459)
341874 2005-04-06 13:28:00 I have done less with Orcon 256K (considering both up and down traffic) than I had done with Paradise on 128K which only measured down.

Now how could I possibly do more on 128K than 256K, easy, the service is not up to scratch, it's impossible to do anything on here and latency does blow.

In fact my first month, I did 3% of what I would normally do on 128K, and yet Orcon want to continue charging me, I'm still waiting on their accounts to sort my first problem out, before I tell them where to stick the rest of it.

If they wanted their money, they should have followed up after the 10 days not being paid, they still haven't followed up owings over 30 days, nor have they sorted my first problem out, which was queried with the first bill, which I've already received 3 other bills in advance now. I got sick of emailing, that I'm relying on 1 email to resolve the problems if it doesn't work, they definitely won't be a getting a cent till they provide what they say.

UBS network blows, may as well go back to the Jetstream network, if that's still available.
