341957 2005-04-05 21:51:00 I see that a new Windows Update today, tinyurl.com says that it "Updates Windows with necessary runtime components for running smart applicaitons. The applicaiton will connect to Microsoft.com and get the latest .NET Framework 1.1 bits as well as DirectX 9.0c bits along with the needed prerequisites."

What is a "smart applicaiton"?
I've never had or needed any applicaitons on my computers, as far as I am aware.
Can someone explain what they are?

Official description:
software programs that use the latest Microsoft Windows runtime technologies and meet certain requirements

Personally I'd avoid it like the plague. MS and smart in the same sentence?, hah!

341959 2005-04-06 03:33:00 Microsofts spelling error?

The mean "applications", and finally get it right at the end of the paragraph.

An "application" is a program. No idea what an "applicaiton" is from Microsoft apart from a typo....

341960 2005-04-06 04:54:00 It's probably a new* (patented) way of doing business.

*New: method, algorithm, or other process in common use worldwide for at least 80 years.
