341797 2005-04-05 04:56:00 Hello, when I try to enable hibernation on my computer, it gives the the message, "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process."

What's this about?

341798 2005-04-05 05:03:00 Go into safe mode delete this file hiberfil.sys.

Reboot then try again. See what happens.

341800 2005-04-05 06:29:00 Where is this file? I searched for it, but got nothing...is it a typo? I tried hiberfile.sys as well, but still nothing. coleProtocol (7810)

341802 2005-04-05 06:42:00 Still nothing. "Search system folders" and "Search hidden files and folders" were checked this time. I also looked in the WINDOWS, WINDOWS/system and WINDOWS/system32 directories; it's not in any of those. coleProtocol (7810)
341803 2005-04-05 06:47:00 try searching for "hiber*" or even "*.sys" ... wildcards are useful things when you're not quite sure of how something is called. Graham L (2)

It's an old thread now, but im a newbie to this.
I'm assuming your'e in safe mode already.

In XP you have to tick option in Windows' Search "Advanced Options"
to "Search for hidden files and folders"
then search in "C:\" for "hiberfil.sys" and delete it.

I've just had this prob. as well.
Thanks Speedy
