| 342930 | 2005-04-08 22:41:00 | it would be better if you did a clean install | Prescott (11) | ||
| 342931 | 2005-04-08 22:51:00 | Why not just back up your 'current files' and do a clean install? Cheers |

| 342932 | 2005-04-08 23:01:00 | Nah I wouldnt back it up... Whats the point if u reformat the hdd? You cant put programs that have been installed already, back on a hdd, on a different version of XP. You have to reinstall whatever programs back on the hdd again. |

| 342934 | 2005-04-09 02:53:00 | I don't really want to start with a fresh XP install, I've got all my programs and settiings just the way I want and I also don't want to lose my saved games, I've got Battle for Middle Earth, Doom 3, HL2, I don't really want to start again with any of them, and I really couldn't be bothered with backing-up all the files... at least if there's a way around it. cheers chiefnz |

Your data should be left untouched but with computers there is always the risk of something going wrong so it would be prudent to backup everything that you do not wish to lose, just in case. Otherwise, installing over the top, whilst not the ideal solution, ought to work fine. Really, though, if you have Windows XP Home all setup how you like it, why do you wish to upgrade to XP Pro? For a home computer there is little benefit. I would be either reformatting before upgrading to Pro or sticking with Home if it were me. |

No You should just be able to go over the top of XP when installing Pro by doing repair (I just did fresh install however using academic). You may want to save your emails etc just in case |

| 342937 | 2005-04-09 03:34:00 | But an OEM version will almost certainly insist on doing a clean installation. It looks for an existing OS. :( The OEM installer assumes it's being installed on a NEW computer. | Graham L (2) | ||
