342919 2005-04-08 15:53:00 Can anyone recommend a good service for sending SMS messages from your computer? I used to use SMSPOP (run by MTN in South Africa) but they closed it down as of the end of last month.

I'm not looking for a bulk SMSer, just a system for sending messages to one or two people at a time. Ideally it would be a downloadable client which you could leave running on your desktop (not a web inetrface), and allow two way messaging (so the recipient can select reply on they cellphone and send a message back).

SMSPOP used to cost around $15 for 100 messages and worked perfectly for me - but they said it wasn't making any money so should it down. They only alternative I have tried so far is Clickatell but it is more aimed at bulk SMSing and has a horrible interface to the client software.

Any suggestions?

342921 2005-04-09 08:04:00 It doesn't need to be a free service - I'm quite prepared to pay for something the works worldwide (NZ, Oz, South Africa and Mozambique are the countries I'm personally interested in SMSing).

I have done a search on google and found a few services that are available, and most of the IMs seem to have a paid services to send messages to cellphones, I was just trying to avoid having to register with them all for a demo to find out how good they are and what are their limitations. Really I'm looking for recommedations from anyone that uses an SMS service from their computer regularly.

342923 2005-04-11 14:10:00 Decided to go with Clickatell as it was the only one I could find with a downloadable client (http://clickatell.com). Works out at about 7.5c per SMS. MozamPete (4705)
342924 2006-08-03 04:19:00 I've been using Skype. Messages cost .078 Euros, which is pretty good and this way I can send them to the UK. jcr1 (893)
