342528 2005-04-07 11:35:00 Hi All,

This has been bugging me for over a week now. I hope that someone can put me out of my misery.

I have an external D-link DSL-302G ADSL modem. When I connect a laptop up to the modem via an ethernet (cat5) cable, I can use the internet perfectly.

When I plug my main computer into the ADSL modem via the ethernet cable, my computer rarely is able to see web pages. It also cannot load the modem's internal http server that contains the settings for the modem (username, password etc etc). Some times it works for about 20 minutes without any problems but usually (like when I was getting to this page) I have to keep refreshing the page some 20 to 50 times before it will actually load. All the unsuccessful times see the browser (both IE6 and Firefox 1.0) stop loading the page immediately with the modem's ethernet light sometimes flashing to show an output.

I get messages in the eventvwr program saying that the number of concurrent tcpip connections has reached its limit and so I've expanded that from 10 to 99 to try and reduce that without much success. I've tried removing the tcp/ip protocol from the connection and adding it again, pulling the power on the modem or the computer or both at once, removing programs like adaware, avg and firewalls (and turning off all the XP firewall controls). Nothing seems to have helped!

I've just upgraded the computer from Win 2000 Pro to Win XP Pro (and finally got SP2 to install properly which was another story in itself). Under Win2000 I was able to connect without any problems and when I did a full format and reinstalled win2000 the internet worked perfectly as well. The current XP install is from a full format about a week and a half ago.

I would be grateful for any and all suggestions or links as I really am stuck!!!

Oh, and my network card is a "Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC"

With hope and gratitude (yeah, its getting that bad),

Paddy.

342529 2005-04-07 12:32:00 The TCP/IP stack in Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2) installed limits the number of concurrent, incomplete outbound TCP connection attempts. When the limit is reached, subsequent connection attempts are put in a queue and resolved at a fixed rate so that there are only a limited number of connections in the incomplete state.
This event is a warning that a malicious program or a virus might be running on the system. To troubleshoot the issue, find the program that is responsible for the failing connection attempts
