342719 2005-04-08 09:11:00 Looking at your irql_not_less_or_equal stop 0x0000000a error message, it does mention either hardware or software issues. What software has been installed recently and has there been any hardware changes?

If you can get the machine booted into Windows, then I would start to backup any important files now before proceding further while you can.

342720 2005-04-08 09:12:00 Remove any Recently Installed Third-Party Software or Drivers
If you have installed any third-party software or drivers, you may want to remove or disable them from loading. Reboot to see if the software or driver was causing the error message. If so, contact the vendor of the software or driver to report the problem.

If you are not able to boot into Windows after you have installed the software or drivers, you need to use one of the following methods to restore Windows:
Try the Last Known Good configuration by pressing SPACEBAR during startup when you receive the prompt. When the Hardware Profile/Configuration Recovery menu appears, press L to switch to the Last Known Good configuration, and then press ENTER.
Repair the Windows installation with the Emergency Repair Disk or use the Windows Emergency Repair process.
Remove Any Newly Installed Hardware
If you have added any hardware since Windows was installed, you may want to remove the hardware to see if the error message stops occurring. If this corrects the problem, you may want to use any or all of the following methods:
Obtain updated drivers (if any) for the device.
Run diagnostics to see if the device is working properly.
Check Event Viewer for any additional error messages that might help determine the device or driver that is causing the problem.

342721 2005-04-08 09:13:00 Ooops ! Thank you. Linz53 (3302)
342722 2005-04-08 09:14:00 The error "Windows\System32\Config\System" file missing means that the entire Registry hive is unable to be loaded.

That is often a sign that the HDD is dying in my experience, which is also the cause of the Blue Screens of Death (BSODs).

When the PC reads erroneous data due to a corrupt disk, it reboots, the corruption means that it cannot load the Registry hive and the error is displayed.

This can give rise to all manner of errors as well, such as the Stop 0A error in the image, due to faulty data.

342723 2005-04-08 09:18:00 STOP.

If you have anything on that drive that you want to back up then slave it in another machine and drag it over.

Otherwise its time to get teh comp looked at, you either have a complete melt down of Windows or a hardware failure.

Or,as so often happens, maybe just a little bit of messed up boot files....

342724 2005-04-08 09:56:00 Well thanks everybody, so far I've attempted to update the Back Up, (its mostly backed up already) unfortunately it died halfway...
And meanwhile right now I have some other pressing matters, and will have to carry on in the morning !
Thanks a bundle for all your suggestions, when its resolved I will post a reply.

342725 2005-04-08 12:12:00 Sounds as if it could be hardware. You could try swapping components between computers like graphics card, soundcard etc even harddrives if that is possible.

Trevor:)
