| 342684 | 2005-04-10 01:28:00 | It's because Windows remembers crap like an elephant. Lan 1 will be assigned to some long lost old driver version, or a different NIC that was in the box. Common as problem. Hope you're not charging them for this. How about the gateway? And no I did not charge her. I don't charge for NOT fixing something. She reinstalled Windows herself as less hassle and she felt it needed a clean out anyway. But it bugs me, which is why I'd like to know if I can. The gateway was the weird one. |

| 342685 | 2005-04-10 01:45:00 | How about the gateway? The gateway could just be the server address it used to connect to (for net access or to a WAN it may have been connected to) Possibility? |

She had a regular interent setup using a dynalink router. (and she'd tried a dlink and some other one too). The gateway had the delete option greyed out and also and nothing associated with it, that is when you viewed properties there was nothing there at all. I'm sure that was what was causing her to get the Page Not Found thing, her DSL was there, just couldn't make a connection. The router reported lots of uptime but her ISP had said they could see her losing connection. On the otherhand she got sick of them telling her that and rang Telecom who said she did have connection. I'd say she did, as far as DSL was concerned anyway. Its weird though as she had not installed anything that I could see would give her this gateway icon. She was spyware free, she works for Datacom so knows what she is doing. A few others had been out to look at it and seemed to have done nothing other than re-do her settings in the router. No-one else mentioned the gateway to her. I mean its ok now but it annoys me when I find something like this and don't know the reason for it. A reinstall is rather drastic a fix.... |
