| 342747 | 2005-04-08 09:38:00 | Ok, I know I have been around awhile, but I have never set up the Fax part on my puter, running XP, as I didn't know if it was free or not. I live in a small country town, so are they free locally, and nationally, or are they the same as phone calls? TIA :thumbs: | supergran (108) | ||
| 342748 | 2005-04-08 09:42:00 | If you fax locally theyre free . You still pay tho, if its out of your area . (If you're in the Waikato and u fax something to Auckland) . Or fax overseas . BUT heaps cheaper than saying the same thing over the phone, talking . So if u fax to somewhere outside your area, it would be the same as making a tollcall . BUT then if its an 0800 fax, well then u pay nothing wherever the other fax is . If its in NZ . If this is where u r . |

| 342751 | 2005-04-08 16:04:00 | Does the fax capability of fax modem has the same "power" as a normal fax machine? I mean, do I need to connect my fax/modem to a server or whatever? Cheers :) | Renmoo (66) | ||

Cheers :) A fax modem does the same thing as a fax . All u need is Windows / an operating system, and a fax program . No server required . Just run the fax program type up the fax, send it . Thats it . BUT if u want it to act like a fax all day / every day, the program and the computer would have to stay on to receive faxes . |

From Help and support of Windows Xp: Using Fax, you can choose to send and receive faxes with a local fax device attached to your computer, or with a remote fax device connected to fax resources located on a network . So, can I just send fax using my fax modem directly without installing additional hardwares? Thanks and cheers :) |

| 342754 | 2005-04-08 23:32:00 | Yup, like I said, all u need is a fax modem, a phone line, and a program that sends faxes, like XP's fax program. | Speedy Gonzales (78) | ||
| 342755 | 2005-04-08 23:37:00 | But - the problems arise when your adressee naturally assumes that he/she can reply by fax at any hour. Will you be available at any hour? I gave it away. :cool: | Scouse (83) | ||
| 342756 | 2005-04-09 00:21:00 | I am a little confused. No surprise there, but if you are on broadband/cable and wireless, do you need to connect your computer to a phone line to send and receive faxes? :confused: | theother1 (3573) | ||
