1383787 2014-09-12 01:20:00 Hi guys.

Made the mistake of posting this, on Trade Me (www.trademe.co.nz) and not help yet.
I have Windows Vista and can't start Windows Mail
Windows did another update, over night and now I can start mail.
I get this message:-
[Window Title]
WinMail.exe
[Content]
Windows Mail could not be started. The application was unable to open the Windows Mail message store. Your Windows Mail mailbox data is currently being used by another program, such as a virus scanner. Close the program or wait for it to complete its operation, then open Windows Mail again. Any advise, please, or I’m thinking may need a 10 K service?

I'm sure I've had this problem before, but can't remember how I fixed it.

Thanks,
Ian

1383788 2014-09-12 01:42:00 What virus scanner is installed?? Do you mean Windows mail (part of Vista) or Windows live mail (part of MS Essentials)?? Both can get this error. Cant see whats in that link. Dont have a trademe account.

Altho if it is Live mail, is this part of Messenger?? If it is, MS will be killing it soon or may have already

1383789 2014-09-12 03:00:00 Possible corrupt email database
Also try opening mail in Windows Safe Mode

have you tried googling the error: seriously. Lots of suggested fixes to try
You'll have to try a few possible fixes
*** BACK UP YOUR EMAIL DATABASE FIRST : copy it to a USB hard drive or somewhere else on the HD.
How you back it up depends if its Win Mail or Win Live mail

- disable the old email a/c & make a new one & try to import the old email
- try a reinstall of Win Mail , or a Install of Win Live mail
- try making another win user a/c, create a temp Win mail setup & import the old mail
- try a system restore to say a week earlier
