I want to explore some items mentioned in a Listener magazine column, but the links are given as bit.lyNZLnnnn. I have tried copying such a link into Google search, but that didn't work. A search on Wikipedia only served to alarm me with mention of bit.ly being controlled by the Libyan government! And an attempt to download the bit.ly app from the Wikipedia article was firmly stopped by NOD32 antivirus. So I'm baffled. Can anyone explain what bit.ly is actually all about, and point me toward a safe site? |

It sounds like the herald link might be incorrect |

bit.ly is a URL shortening service, much like goo.gl, tinyurl etc it's fine |

You could reverse/expand the url here. (http://knowurl.com/) Agree with Webdevguy the link may be incorrect. |

as above, don't search on it - copy it directly into the address window. |
