1368415 2014-02-22 05:01:00 Hi guys,

I have an Asus Memo pad HD7 which I like a keyboard for. But there is a problem, there is no usb-OTG, which is annoying. My options are buying a bluetooth keyboard, or rooting it and going through this process: www.youtube.com

the problems with rooting it is:
- It is very messy - would require lots of space and I don't have much space as I will be moving around a lot
- Voids the warranty

But on the other hand, it is low battery power and low cost.

The problems with bluetooth is:

-Expensive
-Battery power

Which should I go for?

Go for the one that doesn't void the warranty.
Do you plan on doing a lot if typing on it?

I type a bit on my iPad but I just use the onscreen keyboard

1368418 2014-02-22 06:08:00 I type a lot, it is very inconvenient for me to use on board as I can not keep up things like lectures. darkoverlord123 (16996)
1368419 2014-02-22 06:14:00 if you wanted a real nice piece of kit, :) I'd recommend www.logitech.com Watch the video. ( on the right of that page)

Put one in last year, (price didn't matter) the person uses it on their PC, iPad and TV. (bluetooth)

BUT -- Sitting down for the price -- Its NOT cheap, but blimey its real nice & pretty to use :wub

1368420 2014-02-22 21:37:00 Firstly let's just clarify:
Rooting doesn't take up space, maybe 3-4MB, which is like 0.005%

Also:
Rooting doesn't void your warranty, most of the time it "modifies" it. HTC, Sony, Motorola, I know for certain will all still honor genuine hardware issues, its just software that is out of the question. I've returned a rooted HTC One X a couple of years back, under warranty.

However, that said, I wouldn't go down that path, purely because "You don't need to".

Bluetooth isn't too expensive, some very nice Microsoft or Logitech keyboards start around $70. It does use a bit more battery, granted, but its very convenient and the tablet battery should last regardless. You'll find the screen being on is what chews the most battery these days.

Its incredibly simple to setup, just power on the keyboard, it'll show in your Bluetooth Devices on your tablet, tap pair, and enter the PIN (Most are just 0000 or 1234).

The Microsoft one is real nice, it puts itself to sleep after 5 mins of inactivity and you just tap a key to "wake" the keyboard again. It automatically reconnects to the tablet.

I'll try find the exactly model Microsoft Bluetooth keyboard that I have for you...
