1368480 2014-02-25 00:28:00 I have been running Android devices for four years plus (not only Nexus devices) and have never had an issue.

As for "looser control of the Android market place" (it's called the "Play Store" BTW) - it is true that developers don't have to jump through the same hoops that iOS developers do, but Google certainly does police the Play Store...

They also police non-Play Store installs. If you have the Play Store, and Google Play Services (As a result) then it'll also check any sideloaded apps too for malicious behaviour.

Most Android vulnerabilities will be exploited on the knock-off, non-name brand devices whose manufacturers customise (badly) the OS and then abandon the device from an OS update POV. Mostly Chinese crap...

Correct, basically anything without the Google Play Store, where the manufacturer makes their own play store. Because no Play Store = No Play Service = No checking sideloaded apps (Or apps installed from X store bundled with the device). That's where the issues really occur.

Ouch - That article doesn't pull to many punches.

OS X is degrading into a base for an entertainment platform. As it stands, the trend is entirely downhill for serious work ------ iHaveNoRealWorkToDo products. :D

Seems its not only windows going away from the key functions up front.

Really??. The 'name brands' abandon their mid/low end Android devices as soon as they push them out the door.
So 'name brands' are no better than the 'Chinese Crap' in that respect, unless you are paying $500+ for your device.

As for the claim Google Play Store apps being safe/checked/policed by Google

Apple fixed the flaw and made the update available overnight (www.forbes.com). According to the press it was a 4 day time frame.

Fixed one bug over 4 days -- big hairy deal, doesn't take into account the rest of the article. Why did it take 4 days to do a simple fix and put out a patch (as per the linked article)
“Come the hell on, Apple,” wrote one former Apple security engineer in a strongly-worded blog post. “You just dropped an ugly [zero-day vulnerability] on us and then went home for the weekend – goto fail indeed.” :p

NO OS, doesn't matter what it is safe and fault free, people who think theirs is had better come into the real world.

Don't know why it took for days, other than they may have had an internal investigation as to what happened. Its pretty normal for them not to say anything regarding software or hardware faults until the patch is released for download. That usually serves to piss of the bloggeratii and tech media in the process.

Like it or hate it, it's Apple's M.O.

1368487 2014-02-26 01:45:00 Yes but does that make 4 days for one of the biggest vulnerabilities in OS history acceptable, when it's not a big fix at all, that has realistically very few implications by correcting?

You're defending them, and I'm not sure why...
