| 1383900 | 2014-09-15 05:55:00 | I just copy/clone my working C:\partition to another plugin hard drive (I use SATA caddies and tray systems), I use the Partition Copy function in AOMEI Partition Assistant running off a boot CD. An instant check can be made if the copy has worked ok by booting off the copied hard drive. (Edit: and periodically copy Data partition in the same way) |

| 1383901 | 2014-09-16 22:00:00 | Our computers here do daily backups every night between 8-9pm ( as long as they are turned on), they are set and forget, as long as there's no power outage and the UPS's haven't gone flat :) Doing backups of the Server concerned to an external Drive, that's done manually ( when the drive doesn't crap its self) But I bet you periodically check that the saved images/files look kosha? My scheduled backups are 'reliable' but I still check periodically! Bet you do too? Was using Puresync for copying images to my NAS . OK for a while then just stopped copying anything . It ran but that was it . Now using syncback - looks OK but I do check and verify . Then there is the disk full scenario . Had an auto image set up for someone, showed them how to check and remove old copies, but later found they were running with a full disk and ignoring the error messages . Sheeesh . Then there's the move source files and forget backup change scenario . Etc, etc . |

At the end of the day If the nightly backups did get lost, it would have to be the whole HDD(s) that broke, if theres ever a problem theres a warning pop up saying the backup needs attention. With data backed up at least that's OK, just be a pain to have to reinstall the OS and Programs again. Just in the process of making a NAS unit out of a spare mini PC I have here. Been playing around with several Free NAS programs, some either don't work as they are meant to or are just way to complicated :waughh: That will have a auto backup of accounting Guff and what ever else I decide to put on it. |

For your query, you have 2 ways of performing a backup to your precious data either by using the Windows 8 build in program or using an 3rd party applications. Either way, you need a portable drive, do you have one? If you're yet to get it, then now is the best time to do so. You can try checking out the WD My Passport Ultra as one of your choice as it offers automatic cloud and local backups. Hope my suggestion helps. |
