1383297 2014-09-10 05:41:00 So...............

Is this a localised thing then? If some people have Xtra email that is 99.99% reliable, then where does the problem lie?

Do they have problems with linking between regional servers or whatever? It can't be just coincidence that my email is fine every time I go to use it, so there must be a distribution infrastructure problem somewhere out there in Spark/Telecom/Xtra land.

I did experience a full web outage a couple of months or so back, but that only lasted a few hours. It was a total loss of connectivity, not just email, so I guess that was a different issue.

Cheers

Most people dont have 99% relaible xtra email
Thats one of the reasons why Telecom UK dropped yahoo email
. marketwatch . com/thetell/2013/05/31/british-telecom-dumps-yahoo-mail-for-a-modern-email-service-report/" target="_blank">blogs . marketwatch . com
that why there have been stories in newspapers, on TV & many Tech/news websites discussing all the xtra email problems
thats why theres many threads/disccusions on Geekzone complaining about xtra email
heres one
. geekzone . co . nz/forums . asp?forumid=39&topicid=148804" target="_blank">www . geekzone . co . nz

thats why every month theres another email outage that Telecom admit to & can be seen in there status page

. stuff . co . nz/technology/digital-living/30013748/no-end-in-sight-for-xtra-agony . html" target="_blank">www . stuff . co . nz
. scoop . co . nz/stories/BU1302/S00319/update-on-yahoo-xtra-email-issues . htm" target="_blank">www . scoop . co . nz
. thecivilian . co . nz/telecom-urges-customers-to-solve-yahooxtra-issues-by-not-using-yahooxtra/" target="_blank">www . thecivilian . co . nz

And how's this for a show of confidence in the product
"Telecom is responding to the latest in a series of problems with its troubled Yahoo!Xtra email service by suggesting that customers cease using it altogether . "

1383299 2014-09-10 23:29:00 I think Billy T may have something. In general terms I have had little to complain about although I did "go out" briefly a few weeks back. This last weekend a mate living about a mile away has had problems all week-end. He is waiting for someone to ring him back as we speak...yeah right. I noticed things running a little bit slower over the same time but had no issues..

Interesting series of urls provided by 1101, will give you the benefit of the doubt on the last one, thecivilian, and assume that you realise it is satire. I used to read it regularly until it wasn't updated for months...don't think they're in any position to poke the borax.

OK, thats my opsie :p
I just googled some links & stuck them up.

I have monthly micro outages, where it may take 3-4 attempts to download my email.
Perhaps thats something that people dont notice, if you email is on all day, you wont really notice an outage for 15-60 minutes.
Also issues of a single email taking 3 days to be sent/recieved : thats rare but it does happen . Its a yahoo issue : even sent from one xtra a/c to another
Issues with all the many email a/c's being hacked (past history, but no one can deny the issues that caused)
ongoing (yes still) password issues (not me , other users)
issues with a/c's being locked as Yahoo couldnt realize that people have more than 1 device accessing the same a/c at the same time: Ive seen that myself on
clients PC's : rare but does happen

Also, theres the yahoo spam filter issue: it can be turned off. So you have legit email going to spam & you wont know unless you check in webmail.
The yahoo spam filter must be one of the worst ever made ??
btw, there is a setting, via webmail, to deliver ALL mail incl what yahoo thinks is spam to your PC's pop inbox.
Many users have no idea of whats going into their yahoo webmail spam folder.

When my email is out, I go to "Sparks" facebook & Twitter & see all the others p8ssed off at the outage.

I dont see how the issues can be denied .

1383301 2014-09-11 06:15:00 Like Billy T I've been using Xtra for 15 or so years and, yes there have been times when it's been down for a while but rarely for long. When it goes down - usually back in a minute or so. Their general service has been fine - a whole lot better than some of the other ISP's. Interesting thing about grizzles - the moaners must be using the product to know if there's a problem or do they just moan for the hell of it - to copy somebody else's complaints. Same applies to the periodic rash of moans about Microsoft !! Woody (710)
1383302 2014-09-11 06:37:00 It may depend on if you are using POP3\IMAP or the Webmail - it's the Webmail which dies a lot more often AFAIK. Agent_24 (57)

Well, yes, I am using POP3 not webmail. I also use Orcon for my business email (they host my domain name) and they are both the same in terms of reliability i.e. rock solid.

However, up until a couple of weeks ago my incoming business mail was diverted via Xtra and that was reliable as well.

Private and Business emails are now completely separate: Xtra/Orcon

Cheers
