1383077 2014-09-03 03:55:00 I'm still using XP at home, with no plans to upgrade, but I don't have internet access at home, so not much security issues there the_bogan (9949)
1383078 2014-09-03 10:01:00 I'm still using XP but have bought a copy of Win 7 Pro (32/64bit) in anticipation of having a new PC built sometime fairly soon. I'll be using XP mode in Win 7 to accommodate specialised instrument programs that won't run on Win 7, and I'll run both computers side by side via a KVM switch until I am fully productive on W7. I may also need to be able to boot to Win 2000 to get my DOS instrument programs working properly again.

First I have to wait until I get enough clients paying so that I can get the new computer underway.

I have no worries about internet banking, I don't stray to the dark side so the chances of my having any transaction with the dark side is pretty low.

I don't fancy any flavour of W8 at all, so Win 9 should be well matured by the time I get there.

Cheers

At the current time, windows 7 will be off the selves for OEMs as well on October 31, 2014, so you wont be able to buy it any more unless shops have stock.

But will we be able to buy brand name PC's pre-installed with Win7, under Win8 lic downgrade rights ? As they do know.

I wouldnt be surprised is MS extended that date. It will only cost them sales otherwise.
Win8's reputation has been pretty much trashed & many simply wont buy a PC with Win8 on it.
But then again, all the Toaster shops stopped selling Win7 machines long ago. People are quite surprised (and sometimes p8ssed off) when I tell them Win7 is still available.

1383081 2014-09-03 22:44:00 Downgrade rights generally only apply to the pro Versions and above, the general home user Versions don't have them -- So who knows.

The shops stopped selling W7 PC because October 31, 2013 was the cut off date.
