1369432 2014-03-05 01:34:00 That episode of Top Gear (That aired last sunday) IMO was one of the funniest episodes in the last few seasons. wratterus (105)

That was my son.
he biked to work for ages, no he didn't have a car.
He nearly got wiped out on a roundabout one day.
Now he has a car.

OK, there is a rather large difference in the distance he goes to work now too.....

Husband used to do cycle racing. He told me once he biked from Auckland to Taupo, round Taupo and back. He won.
I asked what the prize was - a toaster. Er......I asked was he mad?

He agrees roads aren't safe for bikes now.

1369434 2014-03-05 03:32:00 I saw a cyclist on the road between Edendale and Mataura the other day. He wore a printed T-shirt that read 'one less car on the road'.

Maybe if we all rode a bicycle there would be a lot less cars on the road and cyclist would be safer. Personally I prefer to drive a car because it is easier, safer than riding a bike and you are protected from the weather.

.

Yes but between Edendale and Mataura there is probably only 1 car and a tractor anyway.

You do see quite a few tractors on that road - traction engines even. It is surprising how busy that road can get when shifts change at the Freezing works or the Edendale Dairy Factory.

1369437 2014-03-05 05:27:00 I bike to work mostly except in this exceptional weather. but half my ride is on a cycle track and the rest is on a near empty road gary67 (56)

Yeah, that train used to drive onto the intersection and sit there for ages while they had tea break or whatever.
Sometimes you'd get up to 4 cars waiting!
