343267 2005-04-09 20:14:00 I'm having this problem with my PCI ethernet controller . I'm running win ME, I have a Lynksys LNE 100TX v4 card, the pc picks up the card fine so does the TCP/IP . However, I have this "PCI ethernet controller" that shows up in yellow with a big "!" .

I have reformatted the pc twice and downloaded the new drivers for the card, but it still won't connected to the net . I've disabled it and tried just about everything I know to get this thing to work .

Any ideas?

Are you sure the PC picks it up? What is it showing under Network adapters in Device manager, exactly?
What is showing under TCP/IP??
Are you sure its not a modem?

343269 2005-04-09 21:38:00 I had a similar problem with a 3com Ethernet card and its driver.
In the end, I had to uninstall the card, double click on the driver (which extracted further files), double click on one of the files so that 98 didn't see the card when the machine booted up, turn the machine off, reinstall card, go to device manager, ..... , and voila:)
Does the driver you downloaded come with a readme?
If so, read it (even if it doesnt seem like its in english)

343270 2005-04-10 00:13:00 I figure in may have been the modem but I removed it from the PC pyshically, the PCI ethernet controller in yellow I was seeing no longer shows up. There is still not Net connection though, I have even tried an older NIC but it doesn't work either.

I still can't figure out why it's not connecting, and it should even with out the modem, but I'm going to get a new one and see what happens with that.

343271 2005-04-10 00:21:00 Is this computer the main computer, or a computer on the network??

I take it, its a PC connected to the main computer, since u need a modem to connect to the net (If its the main computer) .

Not a NIC .

If it's not the main PC, you have to give it an ip address, and enter a few things under the LAN icon/properties/TCP/IP, so it can get onto the Internet .

Installing a NIC wont give u instant access to the net .

343272 2005-04-10 00:31:00 Running off cable, theres not much to installing the card, or gaining access to the net. Just have to make sure the card is working (which both are), Install the drivers and name the PC. I've done in TONS of time on my other 98SE computer. It's just this ME pc is giving me a run around. 343273 2005-04-10 03:39:00 Put your card in, select Cancel when Windows detects it.

Depending on what type of driver files you got, either run the installation file or install the driver through the device manager.

Dont plug anything into it untill it is working properly.
