343274 2005-04-09 18:59:00 Hello
I have installed win 2000 on the neighbours computer. The connection to the internet is via intern. modem.
Lately there is a problem with right click and wanting to disconnect. It just does not react at all. So the only way is to log of and log on again.
One thing the lady did was that she downloaded some spyware(shady and I can't remember what it was) removal software. I have suspicion it was more something like spyware itself as constantly messages turn up while on the internet.
Could anyone help me on this problem.

343275 2005-04-09 20:18:00 Well the obvious thing is to uninstall the software, and install a reputable anti-spyware app, run it and an anti-virus scan. Greg (193)

343277 2005-04-09 21:43:00 Follow the above advice regarding spyware
Update or install AdAware SE or Spybot Search & Destroy (or both) and run those.
See how the modem is after that, you may have to download a current driver for it

343278 2005-04-09 23:08:00 You could download Zone Alarm, which is a great firewall i downloaded over 2 years ago and havent stopped using it... it has a button thing in there where you can completely cut off the internet, nothing goes upstream, nothing goes downstream... and unless you are paying for your internet per hour, it is a primo tool to have and it just sits there my the clock, its useful for me because i like a secure computer (who doesnt?) and im on jetstream so its easier to "disconnect" with zone alarm, but as for you, you may find it helpful until you find a soloution to your problem. hth

343280 2005-04-10 00:20:00 a combination of spybot, adaware, hjt, firewall, and an antivirus prog and that will sort your spyware/virus issue out. when you have nailed the spyware you may want to reinstall your modem drivers, the latest ones may stop that hang when you disconnect :) Prescott (11)
343281 2005-04-10 01:25:00 It could also be something as simple a faulty modem which is not responding to the disconnect signal. Safari (3993)
343282 2005-04-10 01:31:00 or you could just change to JETSTREAM!!! :p

Wht would someone want to change to Jetstream if they just do some web browsing and email and then pay and extra $30 per month to get web sites loaded a few seconds faster.
