343244 2005-04-09 11:46:00 Hi,
I right clicked on the desktop to do something anyway My Documents & My Computer appeared down the bottom (between Start & Clock, can't remember if it's called status bar or not) as well as on the desktop. I deleted My Docs. from the bottom but it also disappeared from desktop but can be found using Start, Programmes etc.

So how do I get these back in their proper place, on the desktop only?
Win ME.
Thanks
Pauline.

343245 2005-04-09 11:56:00 Try left-click and hold on the icons, then drag to desktop, and release mouse button. pheonix (36)
343246 2005-04-09 12:10:00 Hi Pheonix,
That didn't work. It told me 'you cannot move or copy to this location. Do you want to create a shortcut to this item instead'?

My Computer is on the desktop but I want to remove it from the bottom. That is what I did to My Docs. but it also disappeared off the desktop.
Thanks
Pauline.

First - when it asks that, select YES.

2nd - why not just drag your icon up to where you want it?

1) My Computer shouldn't be a shortcut, so that won't take it back to how it was .
2) It's now on her taskbar, so doubt that'll work (never heard of it getting there before)

She should try . . . Right-click on an empty area of your desktop, select properties, Desktop, Customize Desktop, under General / Desktop Icons check that My Documents and My Computer are both ticked .

After that she can drag them to where they were .

343249 2005-04-09 22:11:00 Hi pctek,
I don't want to end up with shortcut icons everywhere which I think might happen.
Dragging wouldn't let me do it.

BTW I thought my all night phone calls had stopped but early hours this morning we got them again. 1:14am 5:44am 6:55am. When you had your problems did you call the TC number from phone book or another number?

Thanks
Pauline.

343250 2005-04-09 22:24:00 Hi Greg,
There was no 'General' tab to click on.
When I got to where I think I needed in 'Effects' both are showing as being desktop items.
Pauline.

Can you double check that. "Effects" isn't where you should be...

Display Properties / Desktop / Customize Desktop. And now you're in Desktop Items. Two tabs... General and Web. Look under General.

343252 2005-04-10 00:42:00 I dont have ME but I'll give you directions on how this might be solved within XP, it might still work.

1) Right click the Start bar (not the button) and go to toolbars and unselect Desktop if it is ticked.

2) Right click the desktop and select Properties. Choose the Desktop tabat the top. If there is a 'Customise Desktop' button near the bottom left then we're in business. Click that and tick the icons you would like to appear on your desktop. OK, OK.

Sorry if this doesn't work in ME, I've never used it before.

Well all icons on the desktop are shortcuts.
I think it won't let you move them around if you have auto-arrange icons selected in dekstop properties. (Right click the desktop for the menu) Turn off align and auto.
Er, TC - just rang through whatever number was listed as the main number from what I remember.

If you get nowhere doing what we did, I'd ring Telecom again and say you want to make an official complaint about nuisance calls.
