2005-04-09 02:23:00 | Hi guys, when ever I fire up the PC the CD draw opens, yet when I reboot the computer it doesnt. The only program I have installed since this started happening is Office 2003. Any Ideas. :dogeye: | timezone (7848) | |
2005-04-09 03:12:00 | Can you close it once you're in windows? And does it open while you're using windows?? And does it open, when you're on the internet? A trojan can cause the cdrom to open, if you're not opening it. If u have an up to date virus scanner, I would do a scan.

2005-04-09 07:51:00 | Hi Ive had a similar problem with my computer that I got in 2000. The drawer opens randomly and sometimes now since ive also got a dvd drive when i try to burn a CD/DVD Its definately not a trojan as ive formated the hard disk and it still happens I reckon it may be a software problem but wouldn't be suprised if it was the drive itself When the drive opens randomly i jam a bit of junk in the drawer when its open and it stop trying to close thus not annoying me anymore Cheers Superoman

2005-04-09 08:43:00 | Cheers for youe answers guys. I definately havent got any trojans on my machine and nothing suspect in the start-up. BTW do trojans do their business while offline? Also there is no CD in the draw while it decides to open for no reason. | timezone (7848) | |
2005-04-09 08:45:00 | and yeah I can open and close it while in windows.. | timezone (7848) | |
2005-04-09 08:53:00 | Umm I've been told if you're on broadband, and u have a trojan, and u format u can still get hit, coz the ip remains the same and the hacker can upload whatever file without you knowing. Coz they may still have your ip address. BUT no I dont think a trojan will work offline. If u have a spare cd and it doesnt do the same thing, I think u may have a faulty switch on your CD.

2005-04-09 08:57:00 | Yep, cheers SPEEDY, thats sounds like the logical answer in regards to the faulty switch, I will look into that one. | timezone (7848) | |
2005-04-09 09:03:00 | No worries :) I would, if u can borrow a cd rom drive from a mate, chuck it in and see if it does the same thing . If the new cd rom doesnt open all the time, its definitely the cdrom you have now thats kaputt .
