343189 2005-04-09 20:58:00 I'm gonna get Safaris back and also recommend iTunes. It does 'hijack' file formats on install, but within options you can easily untick one box to revert back to previous associations. Also the native AAC format which iTunes rips to isn't at all bad quality, it's actually quite good, but your better off ripping to mp3 which iTunes also does.

Also you dont HAVE to use a special program to share mp3s between computers with iPods. The program that Rob mentioned looks quite good acrtually. I think I'll check it out myself.

343190 2005-04-09 21:14:00 The issue at hand would be that Itunes doesn't in any way relate to the original question, It was put foward for the sole reason that its an Apple product.

The above link to mp3sort is broken, heres another.

I have 28gb of mp3's with about 8gb of duplicates so they should give this new appp a fair workout

343191 2005-04-09 21:46:00 Well,as a basic little app its pretty good, An option to search the HD for mp3's and then reloacte them to a common folder would be a good feature that it is sadly lacking.(if anyone knows an app that does this then yell out)

Also the program comes to a complete halt when it hits a file it can't process, due to a large number of files on my HD being damaged (i retrieved them by doing a raw transfer from a broken harddrive) If it just skipped over them and kept on processing then it would make life easier.

That aside,Its an excellent app and a keeper,Not only are my files looking far tidier but I have discovered many long lost songs in the speghetti mess that was my mp3 partition.Mrs Metla seems to be really enjoying me cranking out the metal on a Sunday morning.........

They say that life’s a carousel
Spinning fast, you’ve got to ride it well
The world is full of kings and queens
Who blind your eyes and steal your dreams
It’s heaven and hell, oh well
And they’ll tell you black is really white
The moon is just the sun at night
And when you walk in golden halls
You get to keep the gold that falls
It’s heaven and hell, oh no!
Fool, fool!
You’ve got to bleed for the dancer!
Fool, fool!
Look for the answer!
Fool, fool, fool!

343192 2005-04-09 22:01:00 Do a search for *.mp3, highlight them all, create shortcuts in one go, and move all shortcuts to a new folder Greg (193)
343193 2005-04-09 22:04:00 Lol, intewresting post this turned out to be.
I'm backing Metla on this... the original post was asking ...
So how can I now copy all the music to either My Shared folder or My Music?
Hmm at Black Sabbath on a Sunday morn, I would tend more towards ...

New blood joins this earth
and quickly he's subdued
through constant pain disgrace
the young boy learns their rules

with time the child draws in
this whipping boy done wrong
deprived of all his thoughts
the young man struggles on and on he's known

So is this the first post on this forum that may have got slightly off track .
These quite often turn out to be the most interesting in the end .
The following relating to iTunes I believe does relate to the original question .

Organize your music
Depending on how you've added songs to iTunes, your library might include songs that are located anywhere on your computer's hard disk or other media . To organize your files, you can choose to place a copy of all the files in your music library in your iTunes Music folder .

From the Advanced menu in iTunes, choose Consolidate Library .

Any song files that are located outside the iTunes Music folder remain in their original location; copies of them are placed in your iTunes Music folder .

With all your music in one place, you can more easily copy it to a new computer or back up your music library to an external hard disk or other media .

Thats something I thought was mentioned earlier, and why iTunes was recommended. As safari pointed out, it does actually take care of sorting your mp3s out for you.

343196 2005-04-10 00:37:00 Only within its shell.....and nearly every media player can search for media and make a playlist,That wasn't the question anyhow.

Anyhow, I asked the question directly 3 times and only got piffle as a responce, at the time it wasn't to get smarmy over the product but if the point had been clarrified I was going to get the program for that feature.

Seems a yes or no is irrilvent when you can spread propaganda.

343198 2005-04-10 04:05:00 I give up,Maybe the question was difficult to comprehend.

Though I will download it and see if it does anything a run of the mill media player doesn't do.
