So, try running an exhaustive stress-test with SiSoft Sandra (www.sisoftware.net/) for a while and see if that does the trick. If it does crash, it should leave behind a report of what the faulty component is and where it all went wrong. :nerd: Anyone have any suggestions for a free alternative to SiSoft Sandra/Burn-In utility? |

| 343468 | 2005-04-11 04:54:00 | By prossecing video I would presume he means encoding video, which stresses out the entire system (apart from the video card) for sustained periods . . . It loads up the cpu to 100% and a huge amount of non-stop data is passed through the motherboard, ram, cpu, harddrive, It of course also puts strain on the PSU . So we should be able to discount everything bar the video card and the software . So its a run through the usual . Case temp, If airflow is poor the extra heat generated by the Video Card could be causing heat build up, Simple fix, move around some pci cards, install a case fan, tidy up the wiring . . . or buy a better case . Software, The games maybe having issues with background programs, Disable the entire lot,run the game, see if the problem still happens . Update your drivers (run driver cleaner first) and when I say drivers i mean all drivers, motherboard, video, audio (soundblaster drivers for example have bugs that afect hundreds of games) . The Bios . Jump in,turn off fastwrites, run the game, problem gone? no? Jump in, Select load fail safe defaults, check that your cpu is still running at correct configuration,if not then set it accordingly . Actually, I would go into teh bios and disable fastwrites before tring any of the above . |

| 343472 | 2005-04-11 05:54:00 | Case temp, If airflow is poor the extra heat generated by the Video Card could be causing heat build up, Simple fix, move around some pci cards, install a case fan, tidy up the wiring . . . or buy a better case . I was going to suggest that high temperatures might be the cause but then if the computer runs fine encoding video I thought it unlikely to be this issue so I deleted my post earlier this afternoon . Your suggestion regarding looking at possible background apps running and all the other things you mentioned after that would be the place to start, I think . |
