| 343183 | 2005-04-09 12:02:00 | When it was introduced for Windows in Oct 2003 there were over 1 million downloads in less than 4 days so there is obviously something there that is attractive to WMP and MusicMatch users. Was this not because Apple launched its music download service, which required iTunes, in the US at the same time or do I have my chronology wrong? |

| 343184 | 2005-04-09 12:07:00 | Ah yes: Apple launches iTunes for Windows (news.com.com) So no wonder millions of US-based Windows users rushed to download, it gave them access to the iTunes music service. That's not necessarily an endorsement of the program's merits as a music player/organiser. Further to which, one in-house staffer here had his music collection hijacked by iTunes when testing one of the new Shuffles. It may be he missed the option to NOT have it take over the music collection, but he didn't think so at the time .... |

Being a well trained IDG staffer he would have backed up all his important files I suppose. The merits of any particular program can only be judged by using it and as with IE and OE many people are not aware that there is an alternative they can use such as Firefox and Thunderbird. iTunes is a viable alternative to Windows and other Players and I mentioned it for those who are not familiar with it and may wish to consider using it. People in the end will use what they are most comfortable with but they need to be aware of all the options available to them to be able to make an informed decision. |

| 343187 | 2005-04-09 14:29:00 | Be wary of iTunes and iPods. You have to use a "special" program if you want to share your music from the iPod to other computers. <--that sucks iTunes by default rips music into one of the crapiest formats I've heard. Buggy software, probally not designed for PC. Yes I can back up all my comments through experience. |

It created new folders and everything, saved hours of work. That looks excellent, Im going to download it and have a play, If it makes actual folders and move the files rather then just playlists then it should be good. I know a half dozen comps that it will be going on. |
