| 343370 | 2005-04-10 07:55:00 | I'm currently looking around for a cheapish DVD writer.... There a quite a few around the $110 to $140 range. One in particular I'm looking at is this one from DSE..... www.dse.co.nz I can;t find much helpful info on the brand 'cyber drive' and am wondering if anyone has any expereince with the brand and i particular this model dvd writer. I have read what info I can find on the boards about various other makes especially the Samsung TS-H552 which was actually my first choice(due to price). I have read that people have trouble finding media that works with the drive and that this problem was perhaps fixed with a firmware upgrade(???). If this is the case how easy is it to upgrade the firmware and is it still worth looking at the model. Also the Liteon SOHW - 1673S: does anyone use this model either?? Lastly there is a small computer chain that has a shop in dunedin that does free pc checkups and also hardware installation for a cost, does anyone know the name of the store? Thanks as always for any help. Mantis |

| 343378 | 2005-04-11 03:49:00 | Are their any easy to follow faq's or tutorials that anyone could recommend for installing a dvd writer? I have two cd drives installed currently, a cd-r that I think is the master(?) and a cd-rom that I think is the slave(?) . Is it very hard to install a dvd drive or am I better off taking it to a shop for someone to install for me? Thanks again for everyones help . PS I bought the Liteon today, should hopefully arive on Wednesday . |

| 343379 | 2005-04-11 03:57:00 | Just take the cd out (if the other is a burner). Well if u have a DVD burner take both the cd and cdr if u want. Since the DVD burner will do DVD and burn DVD/CD's anyway Unplug the power / ide cable to it (the cd thats in the case now), then put the DVD in the same way. Connect the ide cable to the back of it then connect the power. And screw it in the case. Thats it. If the master/slave IDE secondary is on AUTO in the BIOS, windows will detect it. Takes less than 5 minutes. |
