2005-04-12 02:13:00 | Just recently I was surfing the web and I typed an internet adress wrong (I believe the site was rotteneggs.com :) , I don't know what exact mispelling I made) and I was taken to one of those stupid spyware type sites; new.net. I figured it was no big deal and just kept on surfing. However after a little while I noticed that my computer was running extremely slow, especially when running Aol Instant Messeger so I checked the program with AVG and sure enough it found a trojan dialer or something like that in a folder in my program files called new.net (there was a .dll file and a few others in the folder altogether). I ran the virus scanner several times (along with ad-aware) just to make sure it got rid of everything and I figured everyhting would be fine. I restarted the computer and found that although some things were running a little slower than normal (i figured the programs had been damaged by the virus) everything worked fine, except for my internet connection. I get no connection at all (I am posting this from my parents computer). I am connected through LAN to my parents computer which is connected to the net by a modem. My comp. says there are no errors and all my wires are connected but there is just no internet at all on my computer! What could be wrong? Sorry for the long post :@@:

2005-04-12 02:20:00 | sounds like something has added entries to your hosts how would I remove those entries? new.net was there and I removed it and rebooted. When it was starting up it said "updating system files etc." for some reason but my internet is still not there :groan:

2005-04-12 02:26:00 | Get this dl.filekicker.com From here www.simplysup.com Install it update it, and do a scan. Then select the utils menu select the 3rd and 4th option...Is file sharing enabled on your pc from your parents pc?? So u can copy files to yours??

2005-04-12 02:35:00 | Yes, I can actually just run the file straight from my parents computer without copying it, but I can copy it so i guess i'll just try that | Elrepho (7789) | |
2005-04-12 02:42:00 | Yup thats good u haveta run it on yours not theirs so u can scan your PC. | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2005-04-12 02:44:00 | The scan found no trojans. I reset the explorer settings and now my hgomepage is about:blank and when I try to open another page it says "could not load the search page". I did the fourth options under the utilities menu and it said "there are no default HOSTS" so there was nothing to do or something like that so there is still no internet :@@: :yuck: | Elrepho (7789) | |
2005-04-12 02:45:00 | Removing New.net with the likes of Ad-Aware can result in the loss of internet connectivity because new.net routes your connection through a proxy. Download a program called LSPFix from www.cexx.org Run LSPFix and remove osmim.dll. If you are still having problems try repairing the Winsock stack. | 343981 | 2005-04-12 02:52:00 | If you've got the program now El select utils and select the 6th options. This will do the same as LSPfix. It repairs the LSP registry entries. | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2005-04-12 02:54:00 | Eureka!!! My internet explorer seems to be working after running LSPFix. However AIM still doesnt connect to the internet :illogical Im restarting right now to see if that helps | Elrepho (7789) | |
