343844 2005-04-11 19:22:00 OK, Hello

I have Windows XP Professional SP2.

I've had this really annoying problem for ages, and I'm to much of a PC dim-wit to fix it!. When I try to open a program the hour glass comes up, does a couple of impressive turns then nothing. Nothing will the open, not even the Ctrl, Alt + Delete trick does anything or attempting to shut the computer down. But then after ages every single this I've asked it to do happens a once! Sometimes its only a minute, sometimes its 10 or 15. Sometimes it works fine. Its a good PC, P4 3.2 1GB of RAM and stuff like that. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this problem without having to reinstall window's?

I've downloaded countless programs to scan for faults but nothings worked.

Please help,

Matt

343845 2005-04-11 19:38:00 Welcome to PressF1, Matt. Can you get to the desktop? Am I right that you can't enter any program at all when you double-click it? When did this issue started? Good luck and cheers :) Renmoo (66)
343846 2005-04-11 19:44:00 Yes I can get to the desktop, and 60% of the time everthing is OK. But the rest of the time programs such as Internet Explorer or Word or anything like that can take such a long time to open or just don't!

343850 2005-04-11 22:48:00 Also some programs caused a problem like this when XP SP2 was installed. DivX was one. Just a thought. berryb (99)

343852 2005-04-12 01:26:00 When everything slows down check running processes (Ctrl-Alt Del) and check for something hogging 100% CPU. PaulD (232)
343853 2005-04-12 06:00:00 Try using FreeRAM Xp Pro. This freeware will optimise your free RAM and monitor its usage and other functions as well. Cheers :) Renmoo (66)
