| 343653 | 2005-04-11 05:03:00 | My computer dials-up automatically, usually after I bootup. I recently downloaded updates for Spybot Search and Destroy and for Ad-Aware.My virus protection is up to date. How can I find out what program is attempting to dial up so I can stop it happening? :help: hogsnort | hogsnort (7858) | ||

Have a look in Network Connections and check out how many dial up connections there are. Have a look in Msconfig - Startup tab for programs that are loading up that may want to use the net. Get a good firewall like Sygate, set it to ask, then it woll pop up and tell you what is trying to access the internet. |

I always have that set to "Never dial a connection". Concur with using a third-party firewall - that will nab everything trying to go out so you can catch the offender. |

On the Advanced menu, click Dial-up Preferences. On the Autodial tab, select the check box next to the location where you want to enable autodial, and then click OK. |

The amount of times I've been in "Network connections" I have never notice the Advanced menu. |

| 343660 | 2005-04-11 06:01:00 | You must be on a LAN or connect to a router via ethernet . For dial up it is safe to have "Always dial my default connection" . Yes, I am on ADSL with a router but even when I was on dial up I had "Never dial a connection" enabled in order to prevent the dial up box popping up whenever something was trying to go out . I much prefer bringing up the dial up box myself when I require it, not when Windows and programs think I need it . |
