| 343612 | 2005-04-11 06:40:00 | 98se supports usb2.0 not 98 . Yes.I plug the harddrive to the usb 2 ports.Theres two ports required for the harddrive. One for power. The other for data transfer. I heard my dad its a notebook external hard drive. So its a 3.5 inch??.. Where is the jumper located? There shouldn't be anything wrong with the bios as it detects my old broken external harddrive.Same brand too and same size.Fujitsu 10gb hard drive Yer thats what I said SE supports USB2 98 doesnt. Umm dunno where the jumpers are on a notebook hdd, but a normal IDE hdd, the jumpers are on the back of the hdd. An IDE hdd is 3.5 inch tho. Doesnt it need a power supply as well?? Not just power from the computer?? Has it got a power connection on the USB case? |

Jumpers etc are the same. The enclosure would have to be a 2.5" enclosure also, 3.5 and 5.25 bothe require power, the 2.5s don't. The jumpers are located next to where you connect the IDE cable. |

Most new laptop drives will start up just using a usb connection but not all, sometimes not even the same models (but from different batch runs.) Older 2.5 drives are even worse. You should either have a ps2 pass through or secondary usb connector for additional power to kick start the sucker. This may not be your problem as even when the they don't spin up just using the usb lead only they almost always show up as a problem usb device that is not configured /recognised properly |

Ahhh .With my old external drive. No power supply was necessary and its the same model as the new harddrive.A fujitsu harddrive. No need for driver.Only needed a usb storage adaptor.Windows 98se detected my old hardrive and automatically installed it I'll try and put a picture up |
