344783 2005-04-14 07:30:00 hi, i have nero 6.0 oem and am using a brand new (today new) DSE dx-162da writer. im using 4x imation dvd+r, and have the drive set as slave on ide channel 2 (the master is a cd drive). i did on successful burn, then on the second disc the message "burn unsucessful" appeared just before verification. I have checked the disc myself however, comparing files, and they all open fine and the amunt of data & files match perfectly with the originals on the HD. any ideas? also, is there a chance that the disc may be damaged in some way from a bad burn, and not work in the future? 344786 2005-04-14 07:37:00 Bad disk perhaps.
I'd make the writer the master.
Also don't do too much intensive background stuff while its writing.

344787 2005-04-14 07:40:00 yeah i never run anything in background. whats the advantage of having writer as master? Kindel (6640)

One theory states:
It is best to give a recordable drive its own EIDE channel if you can. If you have another CD-ROM in your system, slave it to the hard drive and put the CD-RW in master mode on its own channel. This will also help prevent buffer under-runs and give the CD-RW all the bandwidth on the channel.
On the other hand there is some doubt as to whether it matters. However doesn't hurt to have the newer one on master and the other as slave.

344789 2005-04-14 07:54:00 No no NOT a good idea to put any CD, whether its a CD or cd burner on the same IDE connection as a hdd. Hdd's go with hdd's cd's go with cd's.

You'll have more probs....Well maybe not with a cd but u will with a cd/dvd burner.

It may also depend on what OS you have and how much memory is in your system.

344790 2005-04-14 08:02:00 512mb, xp home sp2, by the way Kindel (6640)
344791 2005-04-14 08:13:00 XP and 512mb should be OK. Yup, I would try putting the burner on Master anyway. It just gives it more priority when it burns over the slave IDE device. What option in Nero are you using?? And what are u burning??

DVD's? or doing data disks/cds?

Umm I would check the Nero site. Depending on which version of 6 u have, it may not be compatible with XP SP2. I think there was a version of Nero that fixed the SP2 incompatibilty with Nero.
