344398 2005-04-13 08:52:00 I bought a PC recently with the little money I have (I thought it was a decent setup for $1800) but after running 3DMark 05 I noticed that the score I was getting was lower than it should be for the specs I have.

After looking into it further I found that the AGP Speed was only 4X despite the fact that the motherboard and graphics card both state in their respective manuals that they support the 8X bus. My specs are:

AMD AthlonXP 2800+
Gigabyte GA-7N400SL motherboard (nForce 2 chipset)
Gigabyte GV-N66T128D graphics card (its a GeForce 6600GT for crying out loud you can't get an 8x version)
512MB DDR PC3200 RAM
SATA Seagate Barracuda 120GB harddrive with NCQ
Windows XP Professional (with Service Pack 2)

I've flashed the BIOS on the graphics card to the latest version. I've got the latest Nvidia drivers. I haven't updated the BIOS on the motherboard yet but I don't think that will do much but i'll try anyway.

Has anyone else had a similar problem or could think of some other things to try?

Thanks

344399 2005-04-13 08:59:00 Have u checked the BIOS to see if u can change the AGP to 8x??

4x might have been the default.

344400 2005-04-13 09:17:00 I've seen it on a friends machine. It seemed to be a BIOS issue (i.e. bug - 8X was enabled in his BIOS) or was due to the fact he hadn't installed the latest drivers for his motherboard. Probably makes hardly any difference in performance anyway.. gibler (49)
344401 2005-04-13 09:23:00 Sorry for wasting your time everyone I stuck the motherboard driver cd in and found one of the drivers hadn't been installed. Its working fine now sorry about that :p beedee (7882)
