344549 2005-04-13 11:08:00 Hullo to all Members - from a new one of the membership. I have posted a problem about my computer and have just found that my wife's p.c. has gone 'wonky' in sympathy! She too is learning this computer art.
The System Restore appears to be okay and does its own restore points at various times and when we do one that appears okay too. But just to check the system (and be nosey) we tried to go back to a restore point (to see how it worked) and it came up with a message such as 'unable to restore to an earlier time - no changes have been made".
Does this mean that the system has failed or was that message because there had been no material changes made to the computer to justify a change? (There had been no material changes such as add/removing any software).
Also noticed that the Automatic Update for Windows had not functioned for a while but it was turned on.
Maybe we are trying to be too cautious or have we a problem that needs attention. Thanks for any thoughts. Kaygee.

344550 2005-04-13 23:11:00 That means there is a problem that has caused System Restore to not roll the system back.

To clear that problem, you should "purge" all restore points and start again creating new ones.

To purge the restore points, Control Panel - System - System Restore - tick "Turn off System Restore on all drives", OK out.

Reboot

Reverse the above procedure to re-enable system restore.

You will then lose all the old restore points and it will start creating new ones from then on. But if you cannot actually use the old ones, you have lost nothing in reality.

It is not unusual to occaisionally get a corrupted restore point, and it can effect all restore points.
